The new single from the incredible Camilla George is ‘Ekpe’. The track is a true demonstration of her talent, whether it’s as composer, bandleader or saxophonist. It’s an atmospheric track guided by afrobeat drums and a perfectly deployed brass section, courtesy of Sheila Maurice-Grey. As ever, it’s George’s virtuosic saxophone melodies and improvisation that truly take your breath away. She explains that, interestingly, the track “is about the secret society that my grandfather and great grandfather were a part of that was called the Amama. This society is dedicated to paying tribute to our ancestors and functions to provide law and order amongst the village.” Her upcoming album, Ibio-Ibio, is her third, and it’s already gearing up to be her best yet. -Dan Peeke.
